Coming Up for Air

Greetings! First I have to thank all the new folks and familiar faces who have dropped by this blog recently. A special thanks to "Inky Elbows" the brilliant cartoonist and Twitterista for linking me up!

You don't have to be a cyber-forensics expert to see it's been pretty quiet here for a while. I've been traveling and am heading off soon for a big trip to Turkey. What do I do when I have big trips planned? I set impossible writing goals for myself! What else??? So that's where I've been, head down, fingers flying, trying to get a handle on the new beast.

Before I throw myself back into the fray, I have to give a shout out and a shout up to the universe in thanks to my writer friends, both in real life and online. One thing I have learned, sometimes the hard way, is that for all the fun and creative freedom that come with writing, the path can be lonely, rocky and full of deadly doubt. Without fellow writers, other souls who recognize that thousand-yard stare that comes from mangled plots and difficult characters, I don't know if I would have the fortitude to continue. Even though I know I write because I have to, I know I can write and remain relatively functional (I won't use the word 'sane') because I'm lucky enough to have solid writer peeps. If nothing else, you all make me look normal by comparison! *grins*

You forgot to say writer friends how tend to make you look like a genius!!!

That was a fun trip, and we did a lot of laughing. It was a big uplifter for a self-doubter like me.

Have fun in Turkey. Be sure and blog about it when you return...and don't wait so long.

Thanks Liz! You're an inspiration in so many ways!!! LOL If I survive these weeks coming up to the trip, I can survive anything. I should write a book about it...hey!

Normal...in your dreams, Sheila! I don't think any of us are normal. I loved our trip to MV. It was so much fun. The only problem is the cough I brough back. I don't think the pollen there liked me.

Oh, have fun in Turkey, and take pictures. I've never been. I'll have to live through you. Austin says hi!

That was such a great time. It was such a wonderful setting, but even better was talking about BOOKS and WRITING all the live-long day. With people who feel the same way I do about those things.

I'm sure your trip to Turkey will be fabulous, and if you tell me you met somebody from WV there, I won't be at all surprised. LOL

Having writer friends is incredibly helpful. I don't think I'd like writing as much if it weren't for them. Have fun in Turkey!

Thanks Donna, Anita and Elaine! Turkey should be quite an adventure...part family, part research - all exploration. We shall see...

Glad you are back with an update on your blog!

All I can say is "thank goodness for the support of writer friends!"

Have a fabulous trip to Turkey! Looking forward to reading all about it on your blog when you return. (Who knows - the trip might provide you with another plot for a novel!)

Thanks Suzanne! I'm hoping Turkey will be the setting in the second in my new mystery series. As for writer friends, nothing can replace them, whether we're gabbing on Martha's Vineyard, sipping something cool by the fire at the WV Writers Conference or strolling the streets of Matera, Italy... How did my life get so interesting? LOL
